#43. Citizen Kane (1941)

IMDb-link

Many would say that this is the best picture of all time. I personally wouldn't go that far but it is one great classical film. I must say that it has stand the test of time, both artistically and in entertainment value. Citizen Kane probably works better today than it did in 1941.

#42. The Breakfast Club (1985)

IMDb-link

Another classic I saw in the summer, but not as good as Stand by Me. The solid and "down to earth" script works well with its great actors (some better than others). I'd prefer Hughes film rather than most of today's movies in the same genre.

#41. Stand by Me (1986)

I saw this cult classic earlier this summer for the mood was in the right place. Memorable and beautiful in its own simplicity.

#40. The Quiet Earth (1985)

Good film. Not as great as I wanted it to be. I hoped for more depth and well thought-out story, but it is beautifully made and has a nice slow pace.

#39. The Fly (1986)

IMDb-link

Finally it was time for a sci-fi/horror gore-fest film. Great score by Howard Shore, great actors (Goldblum, Geena Davis), nice script with memorable and classic quotes and above all, awesome special effects.  It's a small movie with a nice atmosphere, the only negative is the 80s clothing and hair-styles...

#38. Caravaggio (1986)

IMDb-link

Caravaggio is full of symbolism, intentional anachronism, poetic but also really slow and gets you pretty bored on occasion. Therefore, pretty unbalanced, but I bet if you're a fan of Caravaggios paitings you'll probably love this. Good lightning and props though.

#37. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)

IMDb-link

Gooooooooood morning Vietnam! I'm a huge fan of Robin Williams, and I must say this classic is one of the best. His comedy-style for this particular character fits like a glove. Oh, and the soundtrack is pretty neat.

#36. Au revoir les enfants (1987)

IMDb-link

It starts slow but gets more interesting in the second act and ends great in the third. Interesting french point of view on the WWII, from the perspective of school children, priests, parents etc. Also, it's based on true events from the director himself.

#35. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

IMDb-link

Just watched this cult classic at a friends house, that's why I'm going to have to jump a little bit back on the list.It had everything that I expected from a cult classic of its kind, bad acting (of course) but also classic memorable lines and really nice photography for its time. I even felt a psychadelic vibe to it with the music and the photo (and yeah, that's a positive thing). Timeless.

#34. 'A' gai wak juk jap (1987)

This is the sequel to 'A' gai wak. It's fun and it has as usual impressive stunts from Jackie Chan. Although, it has some flaws in bad writing and also in comedy when it gets too silly.

This is really the little brother of Network. It's not even close to the level of its big brother but it is good in its own way. Great actors and written characters, although some scenes felt theatrical.

IMDb-link

First I have to say I'm sorry for not updating the blog for a long time now, I've been busy. I'll probably make a marathon or something to catch up this month.

Anyways, this was a darn funny british flick. There's a lot of memorable quotes in this one. Plus, the soundtrack is pretty neat aswell.

No, it's got nothing to do with The Little Mermaid. Anyway, this is a funny dark-comedy flick from Finland with no special story-arc... and I love movies like this. Although it was a little bit stiff for my taste, but I'm looking forward watching more from Aki Kaurismäki. I've heard he's great.

#18. The Thin Blue Line (1988)

IMDb-link

Today's film is a non-ficional documentary, and a good one too. I'm impressed with the photography, music and editing in this flick, it feels like it was a little bit before its time. But, and there's a big but here... it's not engaging at all and even though Errol Morris knows his stuff, it really isn't that memorable.

#12. Neco z Alenky (1988)

This is a different take on the Alice in Wonderland story. I liked the surrealism, although it was too long and the narrating from Alice with the close-up ruined the pacing. It could've been better with a different cut, but I still look forward watching more of Svankmajer's films.

Just watched this piece of flick... and it was superb! The cinematography, the costumes, the food, all the props, the atmosphere, the music, the acting, everything is fantastic in this movie.

I can't find anything wrong with it. I really dug the structure as well. It's different, artistic, simplistic and it works very well. Not a single second was boring.

I want to see more of Peter Greenaway's work. So the next flick is going to be his Drowning by Numbers.

I haven't watched that many Woody Allen movies (that I can remember) and this was my first with him as an actor as well. It's a good movie about relasionships, life decisions, morals etc. But my favorite part of the movie was the philosophical thoughts. I hope to see more of that in his movies.
